Trust is a song I produced, arranged, engineered, and performed on. The client came to me needing production help with his EP. He wanted a vintage full band sound but was more of a singer songwriter. After meeting and talking through his needs and goals with the project, I helped make a plan and executed the recordings. As the producer, I hired a drummer who could record for us remotely and was a good fit for the song. I played the electric guitar parts, organ, bass, shaker, and tambourine. During the initial recording sessions I helped the client arrange the song for this recording, suggested solo arrangements as well as backup vocal parts. The DAW for this project was Cubase. Mixed and mastered to -15 LUFS.
This version of Love to Give is a song I engineered for Sinners and Saints as a part of a 7" vinyl release with Silent Uproar Records. They have a unique sound and way of performing (singing and playing guitar and bass while also playing drums with their feet). The challenge was to capture the raw energy of them playing together live while being able to overdub key parts like the vocals. I used the acoustic tones of their instruments along with sweetening parts of the rhythm section using samples. Recorded and mixed in my project studio using Cubase. Mastered by Dave Harris.
Glad and Sorry is a song I released under my own moniker, Elonzo Wesley. This is a cover song we play live, originally recorded and released by the Faces. It's always been one of my favorite songs. I arranged and produced this version to be close to the way we were performing it live around the time of recording. Captured in my home and project studio. Mixed and mastered using Cubase.
Here is an example of something a little more experimental. The intro and main melody for the song are samples that I created with the band using a wine glass and varying amounts of water in order to record all the notes of the scale. We then arranged them into the melody. In general all the production on the song is a collage of sorts, utilizing unusual technics to help bring context and texture to the lyric content. This is a good example of me in a producer role, doing my best to bring the band's unique sonic visions to life.
